MoDOT to temporarily close Katy Trail near Rocheport due to bridge construction

ROCHEPORT, Mo. (KMIZ)

MoDOT plans to temporarily close part of a popular trail near Rocheport on Monday.

The department will close the Katy Trail between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to the construction of the new bridges over the Missouri River. During the trail closure, workers plan to pour the final supports for the new bridge on the east side of the river.

The work won't require any lane closures on Interstate 70.

MoDOT is making progress on constructing the new Missouri River bridges near Rocheport after picking a contractor for the project in July 2021.

Crews built the current bridge over the Missouri River in 1960. The bridge is rated as being in poor condition, which may result in weight restrictions, according to MoDOT.

The department expects the new bridge to cost around $240 million and will last at least 100 years. The design includes two bridges, one in each direction of travel, each with three lanes.

Crews expect to finish the bridges by the end of 2024.
