UM System curators approve tuition hike, continue making standardized testing optional

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -

Students at the University of Missouri will see higher tuition prices next year.

The UM System Board of Curators unanimously approved a 4.5 percent increase in tuition prices for the 2022-23 school year. Students at the Columbia campus will see a $14.50 increase for in-state credit hour prices for a total of $335.80. Out-of-state students will pay $1,014.70 per credit hour, an increase of $48.30 per hour.

Ryan Rapp, the system's head of financial services, said the increase will not keep up with the price of inflation over the last year. Rapp said the school would consider new tuition models starting next school year, and would speak with different stakeholder groups about it throughout the year.

Curators also unanimously approved a continuation of its "test-optional" policy for admission. The policy allows students admission to the school without submitting a standardized test score. School officials said more than 900 students were admitted to MU last year that did not submit a test score.
