Family of Blain Johnson wants answers to what happened in deputy involved shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)
Family members of Blain Johnson, 37, want to know more after Johnson was shot and killed during a deputy-involved shooting Sunday in east Columbia.
According to Boone County Sheriff's Office, a chase started after a report of a stolen vehicle and a potential kidnapping Sunday.
Officials say, Johnson got out of the vehicle and ran before he pulled a weapon. The type of weapon has not been specified yet.
The Boone County Deputy that was involved in the chase shot and killed Johnson.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, which is the county's standard protocol with deputy-involved shootings.
Mariah Johnson, Blain Johnson's sister says she is tired of excuses and wants answers from law enforcement on exactly what happened to her brother.
Mariah says, "I can't wrap my head around why they shot him."
Mariah said she has been unable to sleep since she found out her brother died. She says, her brother was not a violent man but a devoted father who drove for Uber to provide for his autistic son.
"As a good father, as a good father, he struggling, I couldn't do it," Mariah says.
The Boone County Sheriff Department says Blain pulled out a weapon but his sister says he didn't own a gun.
Mariah said, "I absolutely do not believe he has a gun, I don't believe he had a gun, like a hundred percent I don't believe he had a gun."
Blain's sister says, her brother had his issues like anyone else did. She says she is unsure what was going on with her brother but she knows he is not capable of doing what he is accused of.
"He's a devoted father there is no question about that, he would never put kids in danger."
Mariah wants facts before her brother is said to have done something. She doesn't want her brother to be remembered in a negative way.
"He was a pain but all and all he was a good man all the people on Facebook who knew him personally said that he would give you the shirt off his back," Mariah says.
Mariah says if her brother did do the things he is accused of she will accept it but she will continue to remain desperate for answers till she gets the truth about what happened to her brother.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
