Dog, person rescued after falling into ice in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia firefighters rescued a dog and a person that fell through the ice on a frozen lake on the 2600 block of Carrera Drive.

Crews reported that due to recent snowfall, hazardous road conditions access to the lake were difficult to get to. Crews found that one person had fallen in self-rescued themself but the dog remained in the lake.

A person in a kayak began breaking ice in the lake to help rescue the dog however the person fell into the water. Crews were able to help the person get out of the water and into a nearby home.

Firefighters were able to rescue the dog within four minutes of crews arriving.
