One in custody after chase ends in north Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
One person is in custody after a chase ended in north Columbia.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department said it tried pulling over a driver Friday morning just before 9 a.m. for a registration violation at Creasy Springs Road just north of Columbia. A sergeant with the department said the driver did not stop, and deputies began chasing them. Capt. Brian Leer with the department said the car drove over multiple spike strips the Columbia Police Department used as the chase went on, deflating all four of the car's tires. It eventually ended on Brown School Road just west of Rangeline Street.
"A tire deflation device (aka - Spikes) is one tool we utilize in an effort to reduce speeds of vehicle pursuits and they had the desired effect today as the speed of the pursuit was reduced to around 30 to 40 mph once the tires were deflated," Leer said.
Leer said Eric D. Jackson, 40, was taken into custody for several charges including resisting arrest. Leer said Jackson also had a felony warrant out of Georgia for a probation violation.
Law enforcement temporarily blocked Brown School Road for the investigation. The suspect's car was towed from the scene.
