TUESDAY UPDATES: University of Missouri to delay implementation of the Freshmen in Greek Housing policies and practices
The University of Missouri to delay implementation of the Freshmen in Greek Housing policies and practices in the FSL Advisory Board Report from Fall semester 2021 to Fall semester 2022 due to coronavirus.
The rules will govern whether or not freshmen can live in the fraternity & sorority houses.
A spokesperson for the university says this will give them time to see how COVID-19 has impact greek housing and if any adjustments should be made.
In a letter sent to the housing advisory board, the delay will also allow greek chapters who update other policies and practices among greek housing.
Boone County reports 91 total coronavirus cases, the highest number of cases since April 28
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting 25 new COVID-19 cases from Saturday to Monday.
There are currently 91 active cases in the county; an increase of 11 from Monday.
The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 18,737.
The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 18,529, an increase of 14 from Monday.
The health department's hospital status remains in green.
The health department is reporting three Boone County residents are in the hospital due to the coronavirus.
There are a total of 48 people hospitalized at a Boone County hospital due to the coronavirus.
The dashboard is showing 13 COVID-19 patients in the ICU and six patients on a ventilator.
The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 89,812 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 79,569 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.
Boone County has the largest percentage of people in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 49.8%. The second closest in the state is St. Louis County with 48.3%.
Boone County is first in the state with a reported 44.1% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is second in the state with 42% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 40%. Montgomery County is third with 36.1%.
Cole County's coronavirus vaccination rate reaches 40%; 124th coronavirus related death reported in the county
The Cole County Health Departmetn is reporting the county's coronavirus vaccination rate has reached 40%, the second highest in mid-Missouri.
The health department currently has 14 locations in the county for residents to receive the vaccine.
The Cole County community vaccination site at the Capital Mall will offer vaccinations until July 15.
The Community Health Center of Central Missouri will be offering vaccines at the United Way mobile food pantry events in June. This week’s events are:
- Wednesday – 4pm-6pm – St. Martin’s Catholic Church in St. Martins
- Sunday – 11am-2pm - Annunciation Catholic Church in California
The health department also reported 10 new coronavirus cases. That brings the total since the pandemic began to 8,290 cases.
The county is also reporting the 124th coronavirus-related death. The person was in a long-term care facility. The death was first reported by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services death dashboard update.
Moniteau County health officials urge vaccinations as positivity rate hits 20%
Moniteau County's seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate hit 20% Tuesday, according to the state health dashboard.
The Moniteau County Health Center posted about the increasing rate Monday, when it was recorded at 17.5%.
"PLEASE get vaccinated against COVID," the health center wrote in the Facebook post. "The vaccine is highly effective and safe!"
Though the state vaccine data had not yet updated Tuesday, data as of Monday morning showed 26% of the population in Moniteau County had initiated vaccination, and 23.6% of residents were fully vaccinated.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Moniteau County is ranked No. 7 in Missouri of jurisdictions with the highest positivity rate.
Four other Mid-Missouri counties are in the top-ten ranking of highest postivity rates.
- Chariton County is ranked No. 3 with a seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate of 20.59%.
- Miller County is ranked No. 6 in the state, sitting at 20.19% positivity Tuesday.
- No. 9, Macon County, has a current seven-day rate of 19.23%.
- Morgan County is ranked No. 10. The seven-day positivity rate was 19.23% Tuesday.
