Sedalia health leaders aim to vaccinate 2,200 in drive-thru event

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Some Missourians will be receiving their COVID-19 vaccine Saturday in Pettis County.

The Bothwell Regional Health Center and the Pettis County Health Center are hosting the event which is being held at Missouri's state fair grounds.

The event started Thursday as Missouri continues to roll out mass vaccination sites across the state.

Those looking to get vaccinated at the event were required to fill out a pre-registration form in order to be eligible.

The Pettis County group hopes to vaccinate around 2,200 people and will not be accepting any walk-ins.

In a tweet, Governor Parson said the reason behind the sites were to assist local health leaders.

This comes as Missouri is still struggling to get vaccines out to residents.

According to the CDC's COVID Data Tracker the Show-Me State has received 834,700 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of those however, only 408,441 doses have been administered.

313,161 people have received the first dose of the vaccine, with one of the worst rates in the country.
