Second teen charged in deadly 2019 Jefferson City shooting
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Prosecutors charged a second Holts Summit teen on Tuesday in connection with a Halloween murder in Jefferson City.
Grant O. Deppe, 17, is charged with accessory to second-degree murder, accessory to armed criminal action and accessory to tampering with evidence. Deppe was in the Cole County Jail on Tuesday without bond.
According to Deppe's arrest warrant, he is accused of concealing a gun involved in the investigation.
Another teenager, Devin Schrimpf, was charged in November with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Prosecutors charged Schrimpf about a week later with delivering marijuana.
Deppe and Schrimpf are accused of killing Marquise Conley, 18, at about 3 a.m. Oct. 31 on Rolling Hills Road. A witness told police Schrimpf had called the home multiple times before the killing and said he would "shoot the place up," court documents said.
A probable cause statement said it was Deppe's phone used to make those threatening calls and that a witness heard the 17-year-old yelling in the background.
According to the statement, Deppe is also seen in surveillance video dropping Schrimpf off at a nearby hospital, indicating he was with Schrimpf at the scene of the crime.
Deppe is accused of asking a neighbor to hid an "AR-style" rifle after the crime occurred, eventually hiding it in a large flower pot.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol crime lab examined the rifle and found that it matched the bullets recovered from the crime scene and bore Deppe's fingerprints.
A woman who lived at the home told police Schrimpf came to the home earlier in the day and was angry to find another man living there, according to a probable cause statement filed in his case.
Schrimpf was jailed without bond. A lawyer was not listed for Deppe or Schrimpf in online court records.
