Boone County detention officer arrested accused of having child pornography

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the arrest of a former Boone County detention officer suspected of having child pornography.

Kevin Downey, 33, of Fulton was arrested and taken to the Callaway County Jail around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Mid-Missouri law enforcement officers responded to a residence at the 900 block of State Street in Fulton. Boone County Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Fulton police officers and Callaway County deputies.

A release from the sheriff's department shows Downey was suspected of possessing and promoting child porn. The Boone County Sheriff's Department said deputies started investigating the former jail officer on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Deputies said Downey worked at the jail for six and half years.
