Woman dies from Monday night Sedalia fire, fire still under investigation

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A woman died this week from injuries she suffered in a fire in Sedalia on Monday night.

Sedalia Fire Chief Matthew Irwin told ABC 17 News in an email that Elizabeth Friend died on Wednesday evening. She was 43.

Crews were called to a fire at a home in the 900 block of West 5th Street in Sedalia at 11:04 p.m. Monday. The Sedalia Fire Department wrote in a Tuesday press release that firefighters had rescued a woman who was trapped on the second floor. She was brought to Bothwell Regional Health Center. Other occupants were treated for smoke inhalation.

Irwin wrote on Friday that there were 12 people living in the home at the time of the fire. Interviews will be conducted with the remaining residents. The fire is still under investigation.
