A Sedalia 1-year-old drowned Thursday in a private pond, the highway patrol said.

A highway patrol Troop A report said the child left a residence in the southwestern part of the city just before noon and got into the pond.

Troopers said life-saving measures were performed but the infant was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m.

The report said Pettis County sheriff's deputies also responded to the scene.
