Deputy uses gun to save girl attacked by dogs in Randolph County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Randolph County deputy had to use a gun when a girl was attacked by dogs in Randolph County on Tuesday, a news release from the sheriff’s office says.

The sheriff’s office wrote that deputies were called to the 300 block of North Main Street in Huntsville after a girl was attacked “by numerous dogs.” The girl was bloody and had “numerous lacerations to her body,” the statement says.

The dogs were aggressive and the deputy had to use force, the release says. Sheriff Andy Boggs wrote in an email in response to ABC 17 News questions that the deputy used less lethal methods at first “and when that didn’t work then the deputy switched to his service weapon.” Boggs wrote that the dog that was shot survived.

The girl was taken to an area hospital and the owner picked up the dogs, the release says. Boggs said the dogs have been turned over to the Huntsville animal shelter.

The deputy’s name was not released.
