Vienna woman dies in Osage County crash

OSAGE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Vienna, Missouri, woman was killed Sunday afternoon when an SUV overturned and hit a building near Westphalia.

Phyliss Copeland, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Osage County coroner, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. Bobbie Copeland, 79, also of Vienna, suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Bobbie Copeland was driving on Highway 63 when his 2002 Toyota Highlander went off the road, hit a metal post and overturned before hitting another metal post and a building, troopers say.

Bobbie Copeland was taken to University of Missouri Hospital by air. An MU Health Care spokesman said he remained in serious condition Monday.

Troopers told ABC 17 News crews at the scene that the driver said after the crash that he fell asleep before going off the road.

Troopers shared one photo of a damaged vehicle smashed into the side of a structure.
