LEE COUNTY, Florida (WBBH) — A female manatee was rescued from Moore Haven on Thursday afternoon.

The manatee was trapped between two water control structures, according to the Lee County Sheriffs office. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Lee County deputies and volunteers all helped to move her to Manatee Park.

Biologists tended to her injuries while measuring and tagging her.

Weighing roughly 1,600 pounds, a powerlift was used to help move her from the truck to the boat ramp where she was released.

The water at Manatee Park is the perfect temperature for the animals. It is warmed by the power plant nearby.

A crowd of people gathered to watch the release both on the shore and in kayaks, waiting for her in the water.
