Editor's note: This story has been corrected to show the coroner was brought in from Moniteau County.

The California Police Department said a dead homeless man was found on the roof of a local business Tuesday afternoon.

California Police Chief Daniel Hurt said Wednesday that officers were called to a business on East Buchanan Street around noon after maintenance workers noticed a person lying on the roof.

Hurt said the Moniteau County coroner was called to the business and confirmed the man had died. The police department said the man likely died of natural causes the night before he was found.

The police department would not release the name of the man or the business. The police chief said the man's family members had been notified.

Hurt said the man had an encampent in the woods behind the business. He said the man was able to get on the roof by a ladder the maintenance workers had left at the back of the building recently.
