Randolph County coroner identifies man who died in weekend fire

MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Randolph County coroner has identified the man who died in a fire Saturday in the 400 block of North Hinkley Street in Moberly.

The coroner told ABC 17 News that Jeffrey Benton, 54, of Moberly, died as a result of the fire.

Benton was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire occurred just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

When the Moberly Fire Department arrived, firefighters found smoke coming from the back of the building, according to a news release. After getting inside the building, firefighters were able to contain the flames to one room.

While firefighters were creating paths for ventilation, search and rescue crews found Benton inside the building.
