MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Moberly authorities are asking people to avoid part of town because of a gas leak.

The Moberly Fire Department posted on Facebook a little after noon that Ameren Missouri shut off a gas main in an alley between Williams and Fourth streets. The department said the areas affected are Fourth Street east to Burkhart and Burkhart west to Franklin.

Local radio stations KWIX and KRES reported via their Facebook page that their building had been evacuated.

An Ameren Missouri spokesperson said someone hit a gas line while digging and 39 customers were affected. The utility expected most services to be restored by 5 p.m.
