COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A former Mid-Missouri congressman has been appointed to a seat on the board that governs the University of Missouri.

Blaine Luetkemeyer, who stepped down from his seat representing Missouri's Third Congressional District after the November election, has been tapped by Gov. Mike Kehoe to fill a seat on the University of Missouri Board of Curators, Kehoe's office said Tuesday. Leutkemeyer spent more than 15 years in the House representing the Ninth and Third congressional districts.

Leutkemeyer is a banker by trade and has a bachelor of arts in political science from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. He lives in St. Elizabeth.

Leutkemeyer retired instead of running for reelection. He was replaced by Dr. Bob Onder, a St. Louis-area Republican.

The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. He would replace at-large board member Robin Wenneker, whose term expired Jan. 1.
