Elderly man accused of flashing gun at doctor during appointment after talking about election
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
An elderly man was charged with a felony after he allegedly flashed a gun at his doctor during an appointment on Thursday in at a Madison Street office in Jefferson City.
Robert Lynn Cook, born in 1948, of Jefferson City, was charged on Thursday with unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree harassment, a misdemeanor. A warrant was issued and no bond was set. He was not listed on the Cole County Jail roster on Thursday afternoon.
According to the probable cause statement, Cook’s blood pressure was high and Cook allegedly told the doctor he had been worried about the election. The doctor allegedly told Cook that he did not “regret the results of the election,” the statement says. Cook then left the room and said, “we’re done,” the statement says.
The doctor followed Cook out of the office and Cook allegedly stopped, faced the doctor and pulled up his shirt, which exposed a gun, court documents say.
Court documents claim that Cook told the doctor, “It’s because of people like you I have to carry this around.”
After the doctor told Cook that he shouldn’t have flashed the gun, Cook allegedly said he did it “to prove a point.”
