Missouri tops $100 million in first month of recreational marijuana sales

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Data from the Department of Health and Senior Services shows there were $102.9 million in marijuana sales across Missouri in February. About 70% of that is from recreational sales, the rest was medical marijuana.

Recreational marijuana sales started on Feb. 3. That first weekend, sales were over $8 million on just recreational marijuana.

The state collects a 6% sales tax on recreational marijuana and 4% on medical. Most of the taxes collected go to veterans' services. Some of the recreational sales tax goes toward expungement expenses.

After voters passed Amendment Three last November, adults over 21 could possess 3 ounces of marijuana without a medical license.

Amendment 3 in Missouri also helps expunge felony charges. However, some charges would remain, including selling to a minor, driving under the influence of marijuana or possessing more than three ounces.
