Two men file to run for state House seats

COLUMBIA, MO. (KMIZ)

Two Columbia men have announced their intention to run for public office at the state level.

John Martin

A Columbia business owner, John Martin, has announced his candidacy as a Republican for House District 47.

In a release, Martin says his campaign theme is quote "let's get to work."

Martin also said his roots in agriculture will bring support for rural areas in District 47, naming Huntsdale, Sturgeon, Harrisburg and Rochepoert specifically.

District 47 is currently held by Representative Chuck Basye who is in his final term due to term limits.

Martin currently serves on the Boone County Central Committee representing ward 4 in Columbia.

He is the owner of Pro Pumping & Hydrojetting, a family-owned business 

The announcement says Martin supports limited government and lower taxes

He wants to use tax dollars to provide needed services, such as quality roads, public safety, support for schools and the University of Missouri.

Douglas Mann

His platform will also focus on issues such as private property rights, supporting the second amendment, freedom of speech and pro-life legislation.

Another candidate has announced his plan to run for a seat in the Missouri house.

Civil rights attorney Douglas Mann announced he plans to run for state representative for District 50.

Mann, a Democrat, has a platform that focuses on education, health care, the economy and civil rights.

The district is currently represented by Sara Walsh who is running for US Congress.

The official filing period begins one week from today for the primary election on August 2nd.
