The Missouri State Highway Patrol says an emergency alert sent to cellphones throughout the state that referenced Gotham City and the Joker was an accident.

The alert went out a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday and the patrol followed up with another alert about the error, but not before many Missourians found themselves befuddled and amused.
