Governor orders flags at half-staff for fallen Jefferson City Marine

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Gov. Mike Parson has ordered all American and Missouri flags at government buildings statewide be flown at half-staff Saturday in honor of a Jefferson City Marine who died in the line of duty.

Marine Corps Cpl. Dalton Pierson died July 28 at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Parson's office said in a news release. The release did not say how Pierson died.

Pierson graduated from Jefferson City High School in 2018 and had been on active duty for three years, according to the release. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion of the Marine Corps' 2nd Marine Logistics Group.

Pierson will be laid to rest Saturday, the release said.

Information about how Pierson died from the Department of Defense was not immediately available.
