The Missouri Senate has approved a bill that would create a prescription drug database, ending Missouri's status as the only state without such a program.

However, such bills have been before the General Assembly many times before. Opponents have raised fears of a prescription drug monitoring program violating patients' privacy and the patient-doctor relationship.

Those behind the push say a prescription drug monitoring program would help in the fight against opioid addiction.
