National Weather Service: problem with software sent tornado alert

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The National Weather Service has identified what caused an alert to be sent during a statewide tornado drill.

The organization says this was a mistake and the alert was supposed to go out as a planned drill.

According to a tweet, the message was misinterpreted as an actual warning.

The organization says a problem with its software caused the alert to get sent out.

The agency says that the issue has been fixed.
