Patrol: Possible child abduction determined false

MSHP Troop F

COOPER COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a possible child abduction in Cooper County Friday afternoon was determined to be fake.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F said in a tweet around 12:15 p.m. that a driver on Interstate 70 had taken a child from a car while it was stopped on the side of the road.

A second tweet at 12:42 p.m. said the report was false and that troopers had identified the reporting caller, the patrol said.

Troop F spokesman Sgt. Scott White said the report was determined to be part of an earlier traffic stop in Saline County.

White said a Troop A trooper stopped a vehicle in Saline County at 11:36 a.m.

Several troopers from Troop A and Troop F including a highway patrol helicopter responded to Cooper County in connection with the search.

White said the search lasted for about 30 minutes, at which time it was determined the abduction call was fake. He said a large amount of drugs was seized in the Saline County traffic stop.

White said the highway patrol didn't issue an Amber Alert because the caller couldn't provide enough information about the supposed abduction vehicle.

White said an arrest was made during the traffic stop in Saline County. As of Friday afternoon, Troop A hadn't released the arrest information.
