Monroe family speaks about 88-year-old disappearance

MONROE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ.)

The search continues for a missing 88-year-old woman from Monroe County who was reported missing back in December.

A couple of Betty Hayes's family members were able to speak more about the day of her disappearance.

"I was greatly concerned that someone had abducted her and her life was at great risk," said Hayes's son Mike Hayes.

It's been over three months since 88-year-old Betty Hayes was last seen at her home in Monroe County.

And as time goes on Hayes's family including her son and grandchildren are at the end of its rope.

"If anyone knew where my grandmother was I would beg and plead they come forward. We want to bring her home. We want to give her the justice that she deserves," said Heather Mozingo, Hayes's grandchild.

Hayes's family describes her as loving, hardworking, and caring. Which came at no shock considering she was a nurse for over 35 years. Hayes also lived in a farmhouse in Holliday, Mo. for over 60 years where she had a herd of cattle that she was passionate about caring for.

"So we kind of agreed that she could keep a few just so she would have something to kind look at and take care of in a lot smaller degree," said Hayes.

Where Hayes could be right now is still a question her family is trying to solve, but they still remember the details of the day she disappeared like it happened yesterday.

"I received a phone call that she couldn’t be found I would say I was panicked," said Mozingo.

And when Mike Hayes pulled up to his mother's home on December 17 is when he realized there could be a lot more to Hayes's disappearance than he thought.

"When I pulled the storm door back completely, I noticed that the inside door of the house was completely kicked in and the door jam was broke on the house," said Hayes.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office doesn't have any new information to share at this time but here's what they have pieced together.

Hayes is about 5'2, weighs 86 pounds, she has grey hair and blue eyes. Hayes was last seen wearing a dark stocking hat and dark coat.

Two men were arrested earlier this month for burglarizing Hayes's home on several different occasions back in May of 2021. A few months before Hayes's disappeared. As of Wednesday, the police have not linked the two men to Haye's disappearance.

A 10,000 dollar reward is still being offered by the family of Hayes.

Monroe County Sheriff's office along with Hayes's friends and family are still asking for your help. If you have any information that would be helpful in this investigation they ask that you contact Monroe's County Sheriff's office.
