MILLER COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Iberia man died Tuesday when he turned in front of a dump truck while traveling on Route BB in Miller County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Thomas Ciavarella, 45, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu on Route BB when he failed to yield to a dump truck driven by Brandon Whittle, 44, of Brumley, while turning left onto Highway 42, according to an online crash report.

Whittle was not injured.

The Miller County deputy coroner pronounced Ciavarella dead at the scene at about 10 a.m. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The crash was the first of two deadly collisions involving dump trucks Tuesday in Mid-Missouri. One person died in Callaway County when a car rear-ended a dump truck on Highway 54 near Auxvasse, the patrol said.
