MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

After working 19 years with the Mexico School District, Superintendent Melissa Chastain will retire in June, according to a social media post from the district.

The Mexico Board of Education accepted Chastain’s retirement as a recent meeting, the post states. He last day will be June 30.

“I have been so blessed to work alongside amazing educators during my time here in this district. I am truly honored to have worked with some of the greatest colleagues in education,” Chastain is quoted in the post. “The staff has worked tirelessly to focus their efforts on student learning, which will continue over time. I am proud of the relationships that I was able to foster and develop over the years with the students, staff, parents, and community members.”

While working at Mexico Schools, Chastain was also previously the interim superintendent and assistant superintendent, the post reads. She was also the principal of Hawthorne Elementary School for five years and was the assistant principal at Eugene Field elementary for two years, the post says. She also worked as a district reading coach, special education teacher and process coordinator.
