COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

MU Health Care plans to open an urgent care clinic next week in Mexico, Missouri, a community left with fewer health care options after the closure of a hospital in the spring.

The new Mizzou Urgent Care will be inside the South Clark Medical Building and will be for urgent, but not life-threatening, medical care, MU Health said in a news release. The clinic opens Tuesday.

MU Health promises the new clinic will provide a "higher level of care" than the walk-in clinic that had been operating in that location. The clinic will eventually include doctors who have already worked in Mexico.

The urgent care clinic shared a building with the MU Health Family Medicine Clinic.

Noble Health announced it was closing the hospital in Mexico and its associated clinics in March and reported mass layoffs to the government. The facilities remain closed.
