Mexico Public Safety Department warns about social security scams

KMIZ

MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mexico Public Safety Department is warning residents of a phone scam over the past several weeks.

Residents are reporting that an automated message is claiming that the person’s social security number has been hacked and shut down.

The automated message then tells the person to push a button to speak with someone.  If the person continues the call, they speak with someone who wants them to pay money with a gift card to secure their social security number.

Everyone is reminded that no legitimate company or government entity will call you needing personal information or want payment with money cards, money grams, etc.
