MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

A pickup truck drove onto guy wires anchoring a utility pole in Mexico, Missouri, on Monday, taking out power to much of the town.

The Mexico Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at about 8:25 a.m., when the 2010 GMC truck drove onto the wires in the 4800 block of East Liberty Street. Police said Donna Delp, 62, was driving on Christopher Drive and failed to stop or turn at the East Liberty intersection.

The vibration from the truck driving onto the wires caused several power lines to cross or touch, leading to outages and power fluctuations for much of the city, police said.

Delp was taken to St. Mary's Hospital-Audrain by ambulance for minor injuries.
