Man killed in Maries County crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) --

A single-car crash in Maries County Wednesday leaves one man dead.

According to Highway Patrol crash reports, Cody Smith, 28, was driving westbound on Highway M about 3 miles west of Belle, Missouri.

Smith's car went off the south side of the road and hit a tree at around 4 p.m.

Authorities pronounced Smith dead at the scene. They said Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

This was Troop I's first fatality for the month of February and the third for 2020.
