Jefferson City man sentenced 15 years for federal child sex crime

A Jefferson City man on Tuesday was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for a child sex crime.
William Ballard, 34, was sentenced for sexually exploiting a child, the release says. He will also be under supervised release for 15 years after he gets out of prison, the release says. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
Ballard had pleaded guilty in December to producing child pornography.
According to court documents, Ballard’s wife found a video on his phone that included himself and a child. The woman brought the evidence to the Jefferson City Police Department on June 11, 2023, court documents say.
Ballard allegedly denied having the video, but admitted to recording the video after she showed it to him, court documents say. Police arrested Ballard at his home and he admitted to being in the video, court documents say.
