Camden County issues red flag warning after severe fires
CAMDEN COUNTY Mo. (KMIZ)
Mack's Creek in Camden County is seeing relief after a multi-fire event Friday night.
According to a press release from Southwest Camden County Fire Protection District, Friday's fire was made up of four different blazes, starting on Highway U, River Ridge Road, Stanton Chapel Drive and Jack Burch Drive.
The fires burned over 500 acres and 15-25 buildings.
10 other natural cover fires also started and required 12 departments to get involved.
Many fires also spread quickly across the area, with one jumping over Highway 54 and spreading to Ballparks National property and another burning both sides of Highway U.
An ABC 17 News reporter spoke to neighbors in the area who were all shocked by the event. One woman said that she was terrified and saw fire all around her house. A man was away at work when the fire initially started and says a tree was still smoking on his way back home.
Crews are still assessing damages and no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The Community Foundation of the Lake is working to help families affected by the fire and are accepting donations. Funds will help pay for essentials like hotel costs, groceries, and clothing.
A social media post from Camden County Emergency Management Agency says a red flag warning has been issued for Monday due to dry air and gusty winds.
