Columbia Police respond to a bomb threat at Columbia Mall Target

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department responded to a report of a bomb threat at the Target inside of the Columbia Mall on Saturday morning.

According to the police report, Target staff called the police after receiving a generic bomb threat at 11:20 am.

Staff said there has been an increase in bomb threats throughout the company since June, with no incidents of explosive devices being located. The phone number used to threaten the Saturday morning is suggested to be a low threat, according to the police report.

To ensure the safety of the customers and pedestrians, CPD has worked with mall management to thoroughly investigate the threat. The police department wrote in a release that it deployed one of its K-9 officers to inspect the area. Following a comprehensive assessment, CPD concluded that the threat was unsubstantiated.
