Three hurt in two crashes caused by traffic backups
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Three people were injured -- two seriously -- in crashes caused by traffic backups in Saline and Phelps counties Thursday.
In Saline County, Vickie Lee, 69, slowed down to turn left on Interstate 70 at mile marker 81.2 at 3:50 p.m.
The crash report states as Lee was turning into the median crossover traffic started to back up.
Troopers said Timothy Wills, 20, tried to avoid the traffic back up but ended up hitting the driver's side of Lee's car.
Lee was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.
Wills was not hurt In the crash.
The Highway Patrol also responded to a crash on Interstate 44 just west of St. James in Phelps County 30 minutes later. The crash report says Bohdan Pelyp, 43, hit the back of a car driven by Virginia Rodgers, 67 with his semi-truck in congested traffic.
The passenger in the car, Scott Rodgers, 68, was taken to Phelps Health with serious injuries while Virginia was taken with minor injuries.
All of the people in both crashes are reported from out of state.
Everyone was also wearing seat belts at the time of the crashes.
