Missing children found during Gasconade County traffic stop

GASCONADE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Gasconade County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that it found missing children during a Thursday traffic stop.

A Sheriff’s Deputy was notified about a careless driver traveling east on Highway 50 entering Gasconade County from Osage County. The vehicle was located in the area of Highway 50 and Highway 19 and a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver did not have a driver's license, but gave a name and identifying information. A passenger was observed in the vehicle and could not provide any identification.

The names were check and one of them resulted in an alert. The Deputy requested a picture be forwarded to him of the subject of interest listed on the National Crime Information Center.

The deputy was able to confirm the identity was a child missing from a juvenile facility in Jefferson City. The passenger was also missing from the same facility.

The juveniles were transferred to the custody of the Jefferson City Police Department. The van – which was reported stolen -- was towed, and the owner was notified of its recovery.
