Traffic impacts expected for Mizzou rivalry matchup against Kansas
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou men's basketball team is set to face their rival, the Kansas Jayhawks at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Large crowds of people are expected to attend and the Missouri State Highway says the game will also cause some traffic impacts.
Troopers say, if you plan to attend Saturday's game, there are a few tips to keep in mind. The Highway Patrol encourages everyone to watch out for pedestrians in the arena area.
Troopers say small children could run into lanes of traffic, so it is important to be extra cautious.
Also, more troopers will be on staff to help with traffic enforcement. Everyone is encouraged to look out for the troopers helping at crosswalks, in the parking lots, and in other places. Corporal Kyle Green with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says patience and planning will be key for everyone attending the game.
"You know it's a great opportunity to avoid road rage and all that type of stuff by leaving early. Sometimes people get amped up when they are waiting in traffic and things. So, leave with plenty of time, that way you're not finding yourself in a rush or rushed to find parking spaces," said Green.
Those without parking permits can find public parking at Truman's Landing. A free shuttle will be provided to take gamegoers from Trumans Landing to the arena and back to their vehicle, according to the university.
Doors are set to open 90 minutes before tip-off at 2:45 p.m. The arena does strongly encourage people not to bring a bag. However, If you do bring one, it will be checked at the door.
