University of Central Missouri attempts to achieve the Guinness World Records title for the largest ridden parade of mules

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Central Missouri must now wait a couple of weeks for official confirmation, after an attempt was made Saturday to achieve the Guinness World Records title for the largest ridden parade of mules.

Fifty mules from across the state and their riders participated in the event that took place in downtown Warrensburg.

The current record is set at 22 single-rider mules ridden in a parade.

The record-breaking attempt occurred as UCM celebrates its annual Homecoming Weekend, which also takes place during the 150-year celebration of the institution’s founding in 1871.

"When we were thinking about what to do to make this event special, we wanted to do something that got the entire community involved and also spread our word to alumni across the nation," said UCM Senior Director of Events and Alumni Engagement, Tiffany Cochran.

While the Mules are the university’s official mascot, the mule is also Missouri’s state animal. Cochran said a lot of people in the state have "mule pride" and people were flooding in to see the attempted record break.
