DWI driver takes out power pole in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department said it arrested a Harrisburg man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Thursday night.

Authorities closed West Boulevard between Ash Street and Hope Place around 9 p.m. to investigate the crash. ABC 17 News crews saw one car damaged and the bottom half of an electrical pole gone.

Columbia police officers tell ABC 17 News the driver, 22-year-old Brandon Lee Longdon, was heading northbound on West Boulevard when he hit a truck going through the street's intersection with Ash Street. That crash sent the car into a power pole.

The driver of the truck went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Longdon on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving. Online jail records did not show Longdon was in custody Friday morning.

Columbia Water & Light crews were working to fix the broken power pole until after 3 a.m. Friday. The road reopened before 6 a.m.
