78-year-old Sunrise Beach woman drowns at Lake of the Ozarks

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person drowned at the Lake of the Ozarks on Monday afternoon, a Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Cpl. Kyle Green confirmed the drowning but said he had no other information on Monday afternoon.

According to an MSHP crash report, Nina Rhodes, 78, of Sunrise Beach, died.

According to the report, the crash occurred when her 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee launched a boat in the water from a towed trailer. Rhodes had an unknown medical event, which caused her to lose control while pulling the trailer out of the water.

The Jeep became submerged while Rhodes was still in it. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic, according to the report.

Springfield, Missouri, news station KY3 reported that a woman died at a boat ramp in Sunrise Beach.

The drowning followed a deadly weekend in which a toddler drowned and a woman died when a boat hit a breakwater, according to highway patrol reports.
