One arrested after a barricade situation inside Columbia apartment

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE: Columbia Police have arrested Leon Aldemar Francois White, 41 of Columbia, for domestic assault, child endangerment and resisting arrest. 

On Saturday around 4:45 a.m., Columbia Police were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in the 900 block of Moss Street. It was reported that after White was involved in a domestic disturbance, he barricaded himself inside the residence with two juveniles.

During the investigation, officers believed White had a firearm. Patrol officers secured a perimeter and requested the Department’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).

The SWAT team established command of the scene while a CNT negotiator made contact with White. After a period of negotiation, he surrendered without further incident. 

There were no injuries reported during this incident. Officers determined there was a firearm inside the residence, but it was not used during the disturbance.

This is an ongoing investigation.

UPDATE: The Columbia Police Department said the incident involving a barricaded subject has been resolved peacefully, with no one injured.

The department said the situation was resolved with the help of Columbia SWAT as well as a crisis negotiator.

ABC 17 crews on scene saw officers exiting the scene carrying two small children.

ORIGINAL: The Columbia Police Department responded to a scene involving a barricaded person on Moss St. around 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

A very large police presence could be seen on Moss St. as officers used a PA system to attempt to communicate with the person inside an apartment complex.

Police could be heard asking the person to, "Come to the door, open the door slowly and come out with your hands in the air."

CPD blocked off Moss St. around 5:30 a.m. as the department continued to attempt to communicate with the person barricaded.

Officers could also be seen in bulletproof vests and helmets, carrying assault rifles.
