Another candidate files for Third Ward race in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Another candidate filed on Monday for the Jefferson City Third Ward race for the April 8 election.

Erica Choinka filed at 9 a.m. Monday, according to information from the city. Derek Thomas filed to run for the seat last week. Candidates have until Dec. 31 to file.

According to information from the city, the following people filed to run in city elections:

  • Ward 1: Incumbent Jeff Ahlers
  • Ward 2: Incumbent Aaron Mealy
  • Ward 3: Derek Thomas and Erica Choinka
  • Ward 4: Julie Allen and Kathryn Harness
  • Ward 5: Shane Kempeter

Municipal Judge Scott Evans filed for reelection, as did City Prosecutor Gaylin Carver.

Columbia Board of Education

Two people have filed so far in the Columbia Board of Education races, according to information from the district. Erica Dickson and Ken Rice have filed.

Candidate filing also closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 31. Filings are accepted as the Aslin Administration Building, according to the district’s website. Filings will not be accepted Dec. 24-26 because of the holiday closure.
