Quantify will not enter agreement with Jefferson City following backlash, city says
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A company that was expected to give Jefferson City employees health coverage has backed out of a potential agreement with the city, a Monday press release from Jefferson City says.
The announced two weeks ago that it would enter into an agreement with Quantify Specialty Care to help employees with “more complex medical needs” amid a $2 million shortfall in the city’s health trust fund.
The City Council had approved the agreement on Oct. 21. Agenda items relating to the company have been removed from the Nov. 4 City Council meeting agenda, City Clerk Emily Donaldson wrote in an email.
“Unfortunately, on November 4, 2024, the City was informed by its health benefits consultant that Quantify has decided that they will not be entering into an agreement with the City of Jefferson. This decision comes after severe public backlash and overwhelming external criticism. Quantify will not attend the Council meeting tonight or pursue any future partnership with the City,” Monday’s release says. “This decision prevents the City from accessing millions of dollars in anticipated savings over the coming years. These potential savings are based on information previously provided to the City from Quantify.”
“Without this program, the City must now explore other options to offset these lost savings, including the potential for increased insurance rates for all our employees, and/or a reduction of programs or services the City offers its citizens. The decisions that balance protecting employee benefits and maintaining services and infrastructure have now become more difficult.”
