Jefferson City Council to vote on demolition of Adams Street house later this month

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City Council will vote on the demolition of a house at 113 Adams Street at its next meeting on June 17.
A press release from the city states that the building “poses an imminent danger to public safety, necessitating its demolition. This recommendation follows a thorough assessment that identified a significant decline in the structure’s condition, rendering the building as a severe public safety hazard.”
“In light of these findings, the interested party in the property has been fully reimbursed for escrow funds,” the release says.
The city had an open call for interested parties on October 2022 to buy several properties on or near Capitol Avenue. Nearly a dozen unsafe and uninhabitable properties were on the list. The release says that the property would still be included in the East Capitol Avenue Request for Proposals as a vacant lot. Two properties in the area were opened for viewing last week.
“While the building at 113 Adams Street is a historical presence on Capitol Avenue, its current condition renders it unsalvageable. The safety and well-being of our community must take precedence. Maintaining such a structure, given its compromised state, is not viable,” the release says.
