JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Crusader alumni, students and faculty came together Wednesday as Helias Catholic High School broke ground on its Spirit of Excellence campus expansion project.

School leaders referred to the project Wednesday as the "final piece of the puzzle" to their campus master plan.

"When I started teaching here at Helias 45 years ago, I never could have predicted that I'd be standing here talking to you all today about placing the final piece in the school facility puzzle," said Ron Vossen, the President of Helias Catholic.

The construction plan includes building a new performing arts center and on-campus baseball and
softball complex, as well as expanding the existing James L. Rackers Fieldhouse.

The Architects Alliance and Sircal Construction worked together in developing the project plans. At the groundbreaking ceremony Abigail Flippin, with the Architects Alliance, gave some details on what the new facilities will include.

"The center will combine performing arts, band, choir, dance, scene shot, green rooms, all into one facility. The alternate baseball and softball fields will feature seating for approximately 1000, a press box, dug outs, batting cages, bull pens, and a 5000 square foot indoor practice facility. A three story fieldhouse edition will include a new weight room, wrestling room, archery area storage and garage space," Flippin said.

Helias Catholic says roughly $30 million is invested in this final phase of their master plan.

Project leaders expect construction to be completed before the start of the 2026 school year.
