Demolition to begin Thursday on former News Tribune building in Jefferson City
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Demolition will begin Thursday on the building that used to be occupied by the Jefferson City News Tribune, according to a Wednesday press release from the Jefferson City Department of Public Works.
According to the release, part of Commercial Way between Madison and Monroe streets will be closed.
Vehicles will still be able to get through using the parking lot on Commercial Way, but the area will be difficult to traverse, the release says.
The release says that on Monday, the east row of parking in the Madison Street Parking Garage will be closed for safety for the same demolition project. The release says the project will be completed by Sunday, July 21.
The Jefferson City Council had approved a $575,000 appropriation on Nov. 20 for the city to buy the building at 210 Monroe Street, about a month after Jefferson City officials announced plans to build a conference center to replace the parking garage at 200 Madison Street.
The Jefferson City News Tribune’s new address is 326 East Capitol Avenue. An article on the paper’s website states the paper moved to that address on April 24.
ABC 17 News reached out to the News Tribune on Wednesday afternoon.
