JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A prescription-drug takeback event host by the Jefferson City Police Department on Saturday resulted in nearly 153 pounds of medicine collected, according to a Monday press release from JCPD.

The release says figure was a preliminary total, and its past four drug takeback events have totaled more than 700 pounds of medicine brought in.

The event – held Saturday at the Jefferson City Police Department – was part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s national drug take back day. The event is held nationwide in an effort to reduce overdoses, according to the DEA’s website.
