Jefferson City firetruck hit by power lines still out of use

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City firetruck that was shocked after power lines fell on it in September is not in use, according to Jefferson City Fire Department Division Chief Jason Turner.

Power lines fell Sept. 20 on a firetruck that was parked on St. Mary’s Boulevard. Firefighters were conducting fire-prevention inspections at businesses when a tractor-trailer hit a power line, which brought down a pole and line on top of the truck and shocked it, according to a previous email from JCFD. No firefighters were on the truck at the time and no injuries were reported.

Turner stated on Monday that damage to the truck is being assessed and the extent of the damage is not known. A timetable for its return was not given.

He said the damaged truck was the only one in the department with a basket that could hold up to three people. All trucks in JCFD’s fleet have 100-foot ladders, but the rest do not have baskets. Turner stated the closest firetruck with such a basket is located in Columbia.
